W. M. Jordan Company
W. M. Jordan Company is the developer of Tech Center. Headquartered in Newport News, W. M. Jordan is a firm with regional scope and national recognition—ranked yearly on the Engineering News-Record list of Top 400 Contractors. The company’s portfolio includes more than 1,100 projects valued at $12 billion. Regionally, W. M. Jordan has taken the lead on several very notable projects including the Ferguson Center for the Arts, numerous buildings on the Christopher Newport University campus and Riverside Regional Medical Center. Additionally, the company was awarded the 2014 Supplier Diversity Award for its outstanding efforts integrating and expanding the principles of Supplier Diversity and the SWaM Program for VASCUPP and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center
Tech Center is modeled after the very successful Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center (VTCRC) adjacent to the university’s Blacksburg campus. VTCRC is home to more than 180 research, technology and support companies in a 230-acre site. VTCRC employs more than 2,900 employees, and at the 2010 International Conference for the Association of University Research Parks, VTCRC was recognized as the “Most Outstanding Science/Research Park” among 200 in the world.
VTCRC brings this award-winning experience and approach to Tech Center in Newport News. This collaboration corridor is focused on encouraging discovery and growing businesses that matter. We will recruit tenants and provide property management in addition to creating the environment and services businesses need to succeed. Tech Center incorporates the award-winning VT KnowledgeWorks program that has successfully helped countless entrepreneurial businesses plan, launch and grow. This platform ensures access to technology, talent, training and education, all within a collaborative campus-inspired community environment with world-class facilities and amenities.
Jefferson Lab
The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab) is one of 17 national laboratories operated by the U.S. Department of Energy. The facility, with a $100 million-plus annual operating budget, employs 750 scientists, physicists and support staff, and hosts about 1,300 long-term visiting scientists and students each year. The nuclear physics laboratory partners with other national laboratories and universities around the world in its quest to probe the nucleus of the atom, unlocking the secrets to the building blocks of our universe. The laboratory partners with industry in finding “real world” applications for its nuclear physics research. These applications can include — among other things — medical technology, supercomputering, national security, energy production and energy exploration. JLab is near completion of a $337 million upgrade that will double the energy in its “giant microscope,” the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF). Looking to the future, JLab is competing for a project that could bring a $1 billion federal investment to Newport News, the Electron Ion Collider (EIC). JLab’s economic impact to the region includes $151 million in income and more than 1,700 jobs in Virginia, $679 million and 4,422 jobs for the nation. The EIC would mean an additional 2,700 jobs in Virginia and 7,100 jobs nationwide. It would increase the lab’s budget by $30 million per year.
CRES-Ellis Gibson Development
CRES-Ellis Gibson, a regional company headquartered in Virginia Beach, is the developer for the multi-family component of Tech Center. Founded in 1988, CRES-Ellis Gibson offers its clients and investors professional real estate development, leasing and property management within the Mid-Atlantic. The company has developed office, warehouse, multi-family and quality-income producing retail projects exceeding six million square feet with associated asset values exceeding $600 million.
Drucker & Falk will work with CRES-Ellis Gibson as the property manager and leasing agent for Venture Apartments. Founded in 1938 and headquartered in Newport News, Drucker & Falk is a third-generation, family owned firm specializing in multi-family management, investment and development, commercial brokerage and commercial property management services. Drucker & Falk was among the first in the country to earn the Accredited Management Organization designation and today remains one of the top multi-family property management companies in the nation.
S. J. Collins Enterprises
S. J. Collins Enterprises is the retail developer. Founded in 2007, S.J. Collins Enterprises is a privately held, commercial real estate development firm that has acquired and developed more than 45 retail, mixed-use, multi-family and office projects throughout eight Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern states. The company is headquartered in Fairburn, Georgia and currently has four major retail developments in Virginia.
The City of Newport News
The City of Newport News, with a population of more than 180,000 people, sits on a prime vantage point where the James River meets the Chesapeake Bay. The city runs approximately 23 miles along the James River and the Hampton Roads Harbor. Steeped in history, Newport News is comprised of diverse trades including shipbuilding, technological research and international commerce.
